Addendum for a Grackle
Floater’s Blog: Pool Date November 7th 2023
A couple of days ago I wrote about chasing a nasty Great-tailed Grackle away from the pool after he pecked at a very nice Iguana. I have since weaponized my flotilla.
Thats right, I went out and got myself a gun. In fact I bought two.
They squirt water quite acurately pretty much three quarters the length of the pool. Any further and I need to configure an arc trajectory.
They are pistols with a little extra holding tank so I can blast almost continuously for 30 seconds before running out of ammo but I know where there is plenty more of that. With both weapons on board my float I've a full minute of Grackle salvos at the ready.
However I prefer the sharpshooter technique with well placed single rounds. A pair of wings are almost always in action immediately after initial contact.
It's quite amusing actually. The bird is flying down to the pool edge where he will hop into the shallows of the first step in order to give himself a bath and yet when a dispersed spray descends upon him in the form of a light shower he doesn't want to get wet.
It will be interesting to see the learning curve. Maybe in a month Grackles will be lining up for their turn to take a shower? They will be squaking at me as I take too long to refill. My free time will be taken up developing an external hose feed for continuous flow. What have I got myself into?
Or maybe the dumb bird will just fly away to go shit on the edge of someone else's pool!
